Why we visit studios

A look at how we select: from the trip to the chosen work.

Why we visit studios

Visiting a studio is the only honest way to choose emerging conceptual art. An image on Instagram tells you what an artist makes. The studio tells you why they make it, how long they've been at it, and whether they'll keep at it once the algorithms lose interest.

When the team travels to Bogotá, Medellín, Quito or Istanbul, we don't book quick visits. We spend whole afternoons looking at unfinished pieces, reference books, walls covered in notes. That's where the information no portfolio publishes comes out: which materials the artist has been obsessed with for years, which other work they consider their best even though no one has seen it, what question they're trying to answer with their practice.

Not every visit ends in an acquisition. When a piece enters the fund, it has to sustain its idea, its materiality and its relationship to context well beyond the first impression.

The method is slow by design. Speed is the enemy of judgment.
